Rehearsal break-even for a Hipobuy parcel

Enter your estimate, your doubt and your line; the console prints what the settlement rule could keep and says whether a rehearsal earns its fee.

Snapshot prices are the figures the estimator displayed on 16 October 2026 before any checkout discount. Edit them if your page shows something else.

Your parcel

Using the console, field by field

This is how to use the tool in the order the fields appear. Start with the destination. Choosing one loads that country's lines from the 16 October 2026 snapshot into the second menu; choosing a line fills in its first weight, first-weight price, step size and price per step. If your line is not there, or your submit page shows different prices, leave the line menu on "Type my own figures" and enter the four numbers yourself. The estimator page at hipobuy.com/estimation shows the first weight unit for each line.

Next, the estimated weight. Use the figure on the parcel submit page, not the sum you worked out from listings: that page already includes Hipobuy's packing allowance. Then the doubt. Type how many grams the packed parcel could plausibly differ from the estimate in either direction. A bag of tees might deserve 100 g; a pair of boxed boots with a question mark over the box might deserve 400 g. The tool treats every gram inside that range as equally likely.

Five numbered notes explaining the tool inputs: country and line, own figures, estimated weight, how unsure, and reading the tickets
The five things the console asks for.

Press "Weigh it up". The three tickets and the verdict appear underneath, and change every time you press again.

Reading the three tickets and the verdict

The first ticket covers the part of your range above the estimate. Those weights lead to a top-up request; you lose nothing, you simply pay what the parcel costs a little later. The second ticket covers weights lighter than the estimate by more than one step. Under the FAQ wording, the difference comes back to your Hipobuy balance within 72 hours of dispatch, so again nothing is lost.

The third ticket is the dead band: lighter than the estimate by one step or less. There the overpayment is not refunded. The ticket shows the worst case and the average across your whole range; the average is what the band is worth to you if you genuinely cannot narrow your guess.

Four notes on reading the output: heavier means a top-up, lighter by more than a step is refunded, lighter by a step or less is kept, and how the verdict is set
How to read the printout.

The verdict reads: "Not worth it on money alone" when even the worst case is below 20 CNY; "Worth it" when the average is 20 CNY or more; "Depends on how unsure you are" in between.

The line check, and why it is separate

When you pick a destination, the console also asks a second question: at your estimate, which snapshot line is cheapest, and does the cheapest line change anywhere inside your range? Lines differ in their fixed per-parcel charges as well as their steps, so two lines can cross. In the Canada snapshot, for example, a 100 g line that only accepts parcels from 1,001 g is cheaper than the 1,000 g surface line up to 1.4 kg, and the surface line wins from there to 2 kg.

If the exact weight would make you switch, the console prints how much the switch is worth at most. It is kept out of the verdict because not everyone picks the cheapest line: delivery times, tracking and item type all matter more to some buyers. The line list covers ordinary goods only; battery or liquid items take some lines off the menu.

Where the line figures come from

The snapshot is 36 queries to Hipobuy's public estimator on 16 October 2026: six destinations at six weights each, with a small 20 x 15 x 8 cm box so that the scale weight, not the size, set the charge. For every line that accepted ordinary goods at three or more of those weights, the weight charge was checked against a simple rule: first-weight price plus a whole number of steps. 91 lines fitted that rule at every weight; one UK line did not and is left out.

Prices are the figures the estimator displays before any discount offered at checkout. Hipobuy does not explain how its displayed price, its discounted price and its lower base figure relate, so this site does not guess which one you will finally pay. Shipping prices are perishable: Hipobuy can reprice a line at any time, and the snapshot is due for a refresh by 30 October 2026.

What the tool leaves out

Money is only part of the decision. A rehearsal adds up to a day before you can pay shipping, and Hipobuy's peak-season notice already warns of slower first transit. A box close to a line's size limit is a reason to rehearse that the settlement arithmetic never sees, because the result tells you the dimensions before you commit to a line. Coupons and checkout discounts lower the price of a step and with it the dead band.

Some buyers will pay 20 CNY for certainty alone, to avoid a top-up request in the middle of a busy week. That is a fair reason, and the tool does not argue with it. It only makes sure you know what the certainty costs.
